Discovering the workplace innovators: Canada’s Top 100 SME’s are recognized for workplace innovation

(Kitchener, ON, Canada – March 29, 2016) Clearpath has been named one of Canada’s Top Small & Medium Employers by Mediacorp Canada Inc. The 2016 winners were announced this morning to showcase some of the nation’s most innovative employers.

“The old assumption that smaller organizations offer less attractive benefits is increasingly looking out-of-date,” says Richard Yerema, Managing Editor of the Canada’s Top 100 Employers project at Mediacorp Canada Inc. “This year’s SME winners provide striking examples of smaller organizations ‘getting it right’ on a range of important benefits, from maternity leave to flexible vacation policies.”

Now entering its fourth year, Canada’s Top Small & Medium Employers recognizes SMEs with exceptional workplaces and forward-thinking human resource policies. Employers are evaluated on the same eight criteria as the larger Canada’s Top 100 Employers project: (1) Physical Workplace; (2) Work Atmosphere & Social; (3) Health, Financial & Family Benefits; (4) Vacation & Time Off; (5) Employee Communications; (6) Performance Management; (7) Training & Skills Development; and (8) Community Involvement. To determine eligibility, the Top 100 editors follow the SME definition used by Statistics Canada, limiting the competition to private-sector companies with under 500 employees.

“It’s an honour to be recognized with this award for a second year in a row,” said Matt Rendall, Chief Executive Officer at Clearpath. “Clearpath is successful because of our amazing team members – their sense of purpose and passion permeate the corporate culture.”

Clearpath was established in 2009 and has grown from four employees to 120; the company plans to expand to 200 in the next year. Clearpath facilitates monthly team building events spanning go-karting to cooking classes, offers flex hours, full benefits, employee training and development, and three weeks starting vacation, and demonstrates transparent communications with weekly company-wide standup meetings. Clearpath is also an active participant in the robotics community by supporting FIRST Robotics and the University of Waterloo’s Mechatronics Engineering Symposium.

This year’s Canada’s Top Small & Medium Employers were announced in a special magazine in The Globe and Mail this morning.
