FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Clearpath Robotics Joins Forces with Canadian Field Robotics Network

(Kitchener, Ontario – February 8, 2013) – On February 8th, the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) Strategic Network Program, funded by Industry Canada, announced a grant of $5 million for the NSERC Canadian Field Robotics Network (NCFRN), with an additional $5 million to be provided via in-kind exchanges of services and financial contributions from industrial and government partners.  In a highly collaborative environment, the NCFRN will work to develop robotic tools able to navigate and provide a better understanding of Canada’s rugged, challenging terrain.

Clearpath Robotics is thrilled to not only be part of this groundbreaking initiative, but to be the primary private contributor to the NCFRN.  Matthew Rendall, CEO of Clearpath Robotics says “This is such a great opportunity for both Clearpath and the Canadian robotics industry as a whole.  We can’t wait to see where this new research takes us.” With proven expertise in rugged robotics research platforms such as the Husky A200 unmanned ground vehicle and Kingfisher M200 unmanned surface vessel, as well as industry leading support, Clearpath is already a trusted partner of universities and research institutions throughout the world.

In addition to working with research institutions to integrate new developments into existing platforms, Clearpath will provide testing expertise to participating organizations, facilitating effective collaboration between researchers. “There are a great deal of problems in mobile robotics still remaining to be solved,” says Ryan Gariepy, Chief Technology Officer of Clearpath Robotics. “Canada is a perfect environment for field robotics researchers to bring their ideas from the lab into the real world.”

Clearpath Robotics is a Canadian startup company founded in 2009 by four graduates of the University of Waterloo’s Mechatronics Engineering program.  Clearpath has found early success, winning the FuEL (Future Entrepreneurial Leaders) Award, TiE Quest’s New Entrepreneur Award, the Shopify Build a Business Award, and taking first place in the 2011 CBET RISE Business Plan Competition.  High profile clients such as the Department of National Defense, Canadian Space Agency, US Navy, MIT and Carnegie Mellon University are proving Clearpath really is “Your Unmanned Expert”.
